National Institute Of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Entrance Exam - Updates

Set up in 1986, NIFT is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country and has been in the vanguard of providing professional human resource to the textile and apparel industry. It was made a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Indian Parliament with the President of India as ‘Visitor’ and has full fledged campuses all across the country. Over the years NIFT has also been working as a knowledge service provider to the Union and State governments in the area of design development and positioning of handlooms and handicrafts.
NIFT Act 2006 published in the Gazette of India on 14th July, 2006 confers Statutory Status on the Institute. The Act came into effect from 1st April, 2007. The President of India is the 'Visitor' of the Institute under the Act. The Act empowers the Institute to award Degrees and other distinctions. NIFT is the first institute in India to award its own Degrees in the field of Fashion Education.
The Degrees awarded by the Institute are recognised worldwide. The Institute confers Degrees to the graduates in the Convocation Ceremony marking the occasion.
The methodology of academic transaction at NIFT is aimed at giving the student a holistic understanding of subject, context and environment, and the ability to innovate and adapt. Study at NIFT is a combination of contact hours, studio practice, group work, and self study. It also provides an immersive learning experience, with emphasis on learning from doing and learning through reflection.
The curriculum offers multidisciplinary learning that prepare students for real life challenges and allows them to carve out unique pathways for themselves. The industry academia interface is strengthened through classroom projects, internships and graduation projects that allows for real time learning for the students.
NIFT has adopted a format of Majors, Deepening Specialisations, Minors and General Electives. Interdisciplinary Minors provide individuated pathways that would permit students to acquire interdisciplinary skillsets and opt for a set of subjects that complement studies in one’s major or explore an unrelated area of intellectual interest. General Electives have been offered to the students to help them enhance their personality and develop interests in specific areas like Personality Development, Communication Skills, Critical Thinking Skills, Professional Ethics etc. The Craft Cluster Initiative has been integrated into the curriculum. Increased Industry interaction for students through classroom projects, internships and part transaction in Industry Environment is the focus of the restructured curriculum.
This test is administered for both UG and PG Design Programmes to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation concept development and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.
