Admission Procedure

(I) 2 to 3 page write-up about the proposed research work clearly indicating the problem to be studied, prevailing research going on around the world in that area, gaps identified in the current research work, scope of your proposed work and references. This write up is required for the department to assess your suitability for the research program.

(II) Power Point Presentation (PPT) not exceeding 15 slides, on the proposed research work outlining the points mentioned in (I) above

The write-up and the PPT will be assessed by the Research Coordination Committee (RCC) of the concerned department. The RCC, may call for a video/tele conference to assess the candidate's technical knowledge, communication skills and research capacity.

Online Examination will be conducted by the committee as a part of assessment. The RCC will identify a supervisor to guide the candidate on his / her research work and based on its recommendation, the Office of International Relations (OIR) will issue the Provisional Admission Letter (PAL), which is not valid for Visa purpose.

The tuition and other applicable fees mentioned in the Provisional Admission Letter have to be paid within 10 days from the date of PAL.

On receipt of credit advice from our bankers, OIR will issue the Confirmed Admission Letter (CAL) which is valid for visa purposes. Students should specifically apply for the “Research Visa”.

On arrival at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) the candidate must report to the concerned Head of Department for further instructions.

The candidate has to appear before the Doctoral Committee (DC) which will be constituted by the university from a panel of experts suggested by the supervisor, within a month of the candidate reporting to the department.

Based on presentation before the DC, it will recommend appropriate course work to be undertaken.
Eligibility
Two years of Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
Selection Process
The number of available seats in the various specializations under different disciplines will be determined well in advance depending on the number of available Research Supervisors and other academic and physical facilities available.
Preliminary scrutinisation of all applications received through online will be done by the Directorate of Research and the eligibility is determined.
The eligible candidates are called for an entrance examination at the respective campuses of SRMIST. The entrance examination will be either Computer-Based Test (CBT) / Paper-pencil. The syllabus for the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.
The entrance examination will be followed by presentation in the proposed research area and technical-cum-personal interview. The presentation will be assessed by the Department Research Coordination Committee (DRCC)
The allocation of Research Supervisor for a selected research scholar shall be decided by the DRCC concerned depending on the number of scholars per Research Supervisor, the available specialization among the Supervisors and research interests of the scholars as indicated by them at the time of interview/viva voce.
The Candidates whose registration has been approved by the Vice Chancellor shall be provisionally admitted to the Ph.D. Programme.

** Scholarship:
Economic Scholarship for Africa, Asia and SAARC- Avail 50% fee waiver on annual tuition fee.
STIPEND:
All full time PhD scholars who are selected for provisional registration during the admission year 2021 onwards will be paid Rs. 25,000/- per month for a maximum period of 3 years.
The eligibility for availing stipend every year, subsequent to the provisional registration, will be based on the progress made in research during the previous year, as part of PhD.
