Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test (TISS-NET) - Admissions Rules

General Admission Rules
  • Eligibility rules as specified for each programme by TISS will be strictly followed and will not be relaxed under any circumstances. Candidates should fulfill all the eligibility requirements as prescribed in each programme at the time of admission.
  • In the case of candidates awaiting their result of minimum qualifying examination at the time of application, admission if offered will be provisional subject to their completion of all the eligibility requirements at the time of admission to the selected programme. If they fail to meet the required eligibility requirements at the time of admission, the admission offered will be cancelled with no further intimation to the candidate. In such cases, no representation will be entertained.
  • Candidates awaiting results of their Supplementary/ Improvement examination or results Revaluation, if any, and not able to provide the final result at the time of admission will not be considered for admission.
  • It is the responsibility of the candidates to verify and confirm their eligibility for admission at TISS as per the admission notification and the Institute will not be able to verify their documents or eligibility until the time of document verification of the selected candidates as per the admission timeline.
  • If the candidates whose qualifying examination is not recognized by UGC / TISS or any other appropriate body, and if the same is found at any point of time during the admission process, the application/admission will be rejected without any intimation.
  • TISS follows reservations under all categories as per the Government of India / University Grants Commission regulations on the matter.
  • Officials from State and Central Government Department and Ministries can seek deputation to any programmes of study at TISS through their government support. The deputed candidates must fulfill all eligibility requirements of the respective programme and be selected and recommended by the concerned ministry/department for the said study programme. The number of deputed candidates to be admitted to each programme is determined by the School/centre. Each programme has specific procedures to admit deputed candidates, depending on the number of students it can accommodate.
  • All candidates are required to provide correct and precise information in the application form and verify the same before confirming the application and making the payment of application fees.
  • Candidates should provide a valid mobile number and most of the communication may be sent through the number provided in the application form in addition to the emails in this regard.
  • After confirming the data filled in the application form, no changes will be allowed and in such cases the changes suggested will not be considered for any selection process for admission.
  • Application fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • PWD candidates who are eligible to avail the services of a scribe must submit a written application form in the prescribed format (click here) and submit it at least 7 days prior to the TISS-NET to Assistant Registrar (Academic) via email at ar.acad@tiss.edu
  • The selection of Scribe will be governed by the Office Memorandum F. No. 34-02/2015-DD-III dated 29th August 2018 by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India titled “Guidelines for conducting written examination for persons with benchmark disabilities 2018"
  • Candidates are required to bring their own scribe who fulfill the criteria. The scribe's qualification should be one step lower than the minimum eligibility for the examination concerned. TISS will not be in a position to provide scribes at any of the centres for TISS-NET.
  • PWD candidates who have been provided with a scribe may be given an additional time of 30 minutes of the Test duration.
  • Canvassing or influencing for admission at TISS through any channel will lead to rejection of application or disqualification of candidature.
Hall Ticket / TISS-NET
  • Candidates will not be allowed to enter the TISS-NET centre without a hall ticket printed from the TISS Admission website and a valid Photo Identity card.
  • TISS-NET Hall Ticket will be available in the candidate’s login page of TISS admission website for download.
  • In case of any discrepancy in the Hall Ticket, candidates are required to write to admissioninfo@tiss.edu or call TISS Care at 022-2550 5252 to rectify the error. The reporting time and further details of TISS-NET will be intimated to the candidates through email and published on the TISS admission website at the appropriate time. TISS assumes no responsibility whatsoever in the event of failure to report on the due date and time by the candidate for appearing for TISS-NET.
  • NO NEGATIVE MARKING applicable for TISS-NET for any programme.
  • The TISS reserves the right to make changes in the notified admission Test schedule. Any such change will be duly notified on the TISS Admission website.
  • Candidates who do not meet the eligibility criteria prescribed for the concerned programme and appears for TISS-NET shall be doing so at their own risk and cost, and if at any stages it is found that the candidate does not fulfill the eligibility requirements, the admission, if granted, shall be cancelled.
Shortlisting for Stage 2 and Final Selection
  • No separate intimation letters will be sent to the candidates shortlisted for Stage 2 (Online Assessments(OA)). The status of candidates will be available on the candidate login page.
  • The candidates are required to check their login page periodically to get the status of short-listing and instructions for further steps in the admission process if any.
  • All selection status of admission including merit list, waiting list, not selected, will be displayed in the students’ login page.
  • Procedure for final selection of candidates for each programme is given under the selection procedure.
Admission / Document Verification
  • All candidates selected for admission are required to report to the respective campuses for document verification and join the programme as per the admission timelines.
  • Candidates selected for admission who do not report for admission on the stipulated date and time, forfeit their claim for admission. In such cases, the offer of admission shall stand cancelled and no correspondences in this regard shall be entertained.
  • Candidates selected for admission are required to produce the original mark sheets/grade sheets/certificates of the qualifying examination at the time of reporting for admission, failing which candidates shall not be allowed to complete the admission process, and the offer of admission shall stand cancelled and no further correspondence in the matter shall be entertained.
  • Mark sheet/ grade sheets/ certificates downloaded from the internet shall not be accepted at the time of admission.
  • The candidate selected for admission shall have to submit the attested photocopy of the qualifying examination in the office at the time of admission.
  • Candidates who were awaiting the results of the qualifying examination at the time of application and who have not received their final year mark sheet / provisional certificate of passing / Internship completion certificate, as the case may be, should submit all such certificates mandatory for admission to the Academic Section on or before 31st October 2022. Any candidate admitted to any porogramme of study at TISS fail to produce the certificates mandatory for admission on 31st October 2022 shall not be allowed to continue their studies at the Institute. THIS DATE MUST BE NOTED FOR DUE COMPLIANCE.
  • The candidates selected for admission should submit the original Migration Certificates from the Institution / University last attended at the time of admission. Candidate, who is not in the position to submit the Migration Certificates at the time of admission, shall give an undertaking on prescribed proforma to submit the same by 31st October 2022, failing which the TISS reserves the right to cancel the admission of such candidates.
  • No candidates shall be eligible to pursue a full time course of study in any other institution or university after they are admitted to any fulltime course of study at TISS.
  • Candidates already pursuing or registered for admission for any full time programme of study are required to get their name removed from the rolls of the University /College /Institution where admitted, and submit a certificate to this effect, from the concerned authority at the time of reporting for admission (including evening courses and professional courses).
  • Candidates currently employed and selected for the admission to any full-time course of study at TISS are required to produce leaves sanction/ relieving order at the time of admission from their employer, permitting them to peruse their study at TISS for the duration of the course failing which the offer of admission shall stand withdrawn.
  • TISS reserves the right to get any student medically examined and admission of such candidate will be subject to fitness certification from the campus medical officer or any medical officer designated by the institute.
  • If any discrepancy is found in the details provided in the application and the documents uploaded and submitted, the Institute has all the right to cancel the admission.
  • Admission will be cancelled/suspended at any stage, If the following cases found:
    1. does not fulfil the eligibility requirements
    2. has used fraudulent means to secure admission
    3. has made false or incorrect information in the application form.
    4. Any complaints/grievances/disputes related to admission must be filed within four months of the closing of admissions. All examination and test materials related to admission of all the candidates, selected or non-selected, will be discarded after this date. Hence, the Institute will not be in a position to entertain any such complaints/grievances/disputes related to admission beyond this date.
  • The closing date for all admission in the TISS will be strictly as per the admission timeline notified, except those programme/categories for which separate notifications are made. Any vacancy arising after the date of closing of admission shall not be filled.
Payment of Fees / Refund of fees
  • The application fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • No refund will be made in case of duplication of application forms and deletion of application after submission and payment of application fee.
  • All admitted students are required to pay all the fees for all semesters are to be paid through the Student Management System as per the fee payment schedule.
  • Permanent employees of the Institute, their spouses, and any two children, are exempted from payment of tuition fees to undergo any programme of study at the Institute. This exemption will not be applicable for self-financing programmes.
  • Non-payment of fees as per the fee payment schedule will lead to the removal of name from the rolls and such students will not be allowed to write the examinations and undergo assessments.
  • In case of withdrawal of admission by any admitted student, the refund of fees will be as per the schedule below;
    Submission of withdrawal of admission to Academic Section - Percentage of Refund of Aggregate Fees*
    1. 15 days or more before the formally - notified last date of admission - 100%
    2. Less than 15 days before the formally -notified last date of admission - 90%
    3. 15 days or less than after the formally notified last date of admission - 80%
    4. 30 days or less, but more than 15 days, after the formally notified last date of admission - 50%
    5. More than 30 days after formally notified last date of admission - 0%

*The above refund may be changed/modified/regulated as per the UGC/Govenment guideline issued if any.All course fees excluding caution deposit. Caution deposit will be returned in full at any point in time
a. In case of (1) in the above, a processing charge of not more than 5 % of the fees paid by the student, subject to a maximum of Rs. 5000/- shall be deducted.
b. In normal circumstances, the refund will be completed within fifteen days from the date of receiving a written application.
c. Students / Candidates are advised to carefully preserve receipts of payments and deposits for any future reference.
